Symphony in The Domain was held on Australia Day, 26 January. The VIP guests included Lord Mayor Clover and her husband Peter Moore, John Sidoti MP, Seven News’ Mark Ferguson and wife & Sarah, 2GB’s Glen Wheeler, theatre director John Bell, conductor Simone Young, and Rode Microphones’ Peter Freedman.
We were treated to canapés by restaurants from The Star, namely mini Wagyu burger and crab salad with peanut praline by Black, slow cooked octopus with potato salad and capers and taggiasca olives and baked eggplant parmigiana by Balla, salmon sushi and tuna sushi by Sokyo, and roasted duck paper roll and grilled chicken skewers by Fat Noodle.
Bubbles were Yellowtail, wines were Yellowtail’s pinot grigio, chardonnay, merlot and shiraz and a sangria, ciders were Rekorderlig passionfruit, pear, strawberry & lime, apple-guava, and apple, and the beers were Sol.
Sydney Symphony Orchestra performed Gustav Hoist’s The Planets and Bell Shakespeare’s John Bell did readings in between concertos. The night marked the finish of Sydney Festival 2014 and was capped off with a finale featuring cannons on the stage being set off and fantastic fireworks in the sky. It was like New Year’s Eve again!
