Last night Parched March, Sydney’s only month-long celebration of bar culture in support of Animal Welfare League NSW relaunched as BARS MARCH for its fifth year! The new name says it all: a whole month of responsible drinking of fabulous cocktails in great bars – for a good cause. The launch was held at Café del Mar Sydney, with a huge event for over 300 guests, including top media, the bar industry, and pet pooches such as Fashion Dog and Oscar & Frank from the trendy optical brand. Celebrities who attended included Dr Katrina Warren, Miss World Australia Erin Holland, Wade Osborn and Cameron Laing from Amy Meredith, Tim Robards and girlfriend Anna Heinrich from The Bachelor Australia, Richard Wilkins from the Today show, and TV personality David Whitehill.
BARS MARCH partner Suntory provided a selection of amazing cocktails for guests, including the Russian Mule made with Russian Standard Original vodka; the Side Car which consists of Remy Martin VSOP, Cointreau and lemon juice; and the Midori Fizz which mixes Russian Standard vodka, Midori, soda and lime. Delicious mediterranean-inspired canapés were provided by Café del Mar Head Chef Ben Fitton and Brand Ambassador Miguel Maestre such as Chermoula crusted chicken, rouille and endive, watermelon, Persian fetta and jamon serrano, Rock oysters with lemon sandwiches, and Padron peppers, pink salt and cumin. A live art show by the incredibly talented Mambo artists kept guest entertained throughout the evening, along with a photo booth provided by JL Images.

The world’s first InstaFilm Festival held its grand finale event on board Australia’s biggest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas. The InstaFilm competition asked Australians and New Zealanders to submit a 15-second video of “WOW” moments from their life. From 1,080 entries featuring a wealth of thrilling, amusing and beautiful footage from around the world, there were 12 finalists.
The finalists, their friends, select Royal Caribbean staff and invited guests were invited to the ice-rink foyer where we were entertained by the DreamWorks Pictures characters Shrek from films of the same name, Puss in Boots from the film of the same name and Shrek, and King Julien from Madagascar, whilst sipping away on St. Martin Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, and Duc Devalmer sparkling, and enjoying canapés of grilled sesame prawns, sweet & sour chicken meatballs, miniature quiches, pot stickers, cocktail prawns in French cocktail sauce, duck terrine with Cumberland Mousseline, smoked salmon & caper tartare, tomato & mozzarella crostini, and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
The movie-themed event gave us the “wow” with a tour of the ships arcade and a surprise ice-skating show by former national champions and Winter Olympic figure skaters on the ship’s famous ice-rink. We then got to see the finalist’s films on the screen in the ice-rink before the winner was announced. It was the surprise of a child seeing Santa Claus for the first time that captured judges hearts.
The winner Kristy Rowe won a “money-can’t-buy” trip to New York where she will enjoy one of the historic inaugural voyages on the world’s newest superliner Quantum of the Seas which will be launched in November.
Local and international artists gathered under the stars to perform at Opera Australia’s annual Mazda Opera in the Domain. The outdoor concert featured popular arias from works by opera’s greatest composers. Brought to us by Opera Australia’s Principal Partner Mazda Australia, the evening concert celebrated the magic and memorable moments in opera. The stage was lit up with a dazzling line up of Opera Australia’s favourite artists, including popular sopranos Lorina Gore and Daria Masiero; sensational mezzo-soprano Jacqueline Dark; debonair tenor Bradley Daley and charismatic baritone Shane Lowrencev.
The artists were accompanied by the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra under the direction of conductor Brian Castles-Onion. With ABC Classic FM’s Christopher Lawrence as the Master of Ceremonies, it was a fun evening. During the evening Mazda presented the keys of a brand new metallic silver Mazda6 2.5L Petrol Touring Sedan to the happy winner of the Opera Australia subscription prize draw.
